Giants QB Eli Manning a Walter Payton Man of the Year finalist

The NFL announced Sunday that New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning is one of three finalists for this year’s Walter Payton Man of the Year award, given annually to honor a player for his off-field contributions.

The other two finalists are 49ers receiver Anquan Boldin and Saints tight end Benjamin Watson. The award will be presented at the “NFL Honors” show on Feb. 6, the night before the Super Bowl.

Manning’s off-field charitable efforts are focused on children. He’s the chair of the New York March for Babies and works with the Hackensack University Medical Center on its “Tackle Kids’ Cancer” initiative. He and his wife, Abby, have founded several children’s clinics in the state of Mississippi, where Manning played his college football, and works with the children’s hospital in that state as well.
