Sawczuk was one of six final candidates interviewed by a committee made up of HackensackUMC family and community, the hospital stated in a news release.
Currently the executive vice president and chief medical officer, Sawczuk will transition to his new role in the months ahead.
Last year, Hackensack University Health Network and Meridian Health completed a merger agreement that will create a health system that spans seven New Jersey counties. The new company, renamed Hackensack Meridian Health, will run 11 hospitals from Bergen County to the Jersey Shore.
