Jersey Shore Community Advisory Committee’s Ermon Jones sparks fight for racial equality

NEPTUNE – The plaques of all shapes and sizes hanging just inside the front door serve as a reminder of a lifetime spent fighting injustice, while the neatly organized scrapbook fills in the blanks regarding one man’s crusade for racial equality.

The house itself, where 92-year-old Ermon Jones sat comfortably on a couch earlier this week, is a testament to what’s possible, with Jones having endured a three-year legal fight that ended in 1963 with the state Supreme Court affirming his right to purchase the home in what was to be an all-white development.
