Hackensack University Medical Center is pleased to announce that it has maintained its “A” Hospital Safety Score by The Leapfrog Group for the ninth consecutive time. The medical center has achieved an A rating since the biannual scoring system began back in 2012 – just one of 98 hospitals in the country to do so. Seven hundred ninety-eight hospitals earned an A score nationwide.
“Patient safety has always been our top priority at HackensackUMC,” said Ihor S. Sawczuk, M.D., president of HackensackUMC. “We are constantly assessing and implementing patient safety initiatives to ensure the highest level of care, such as our recent Hand Hygiene Campaign. Our team works collaboratively to share best practices in a common commitment to quality.”
Twice a year (in the spring and fall), The Leapfrog Group assigns a letter grade (A to F) to more than 2,500 nationwide hospitals calculated from a group of 28 measures. The scores assigned are based on preventable medical errors, injuries, accidents and infections. New this spring, scores included patient satisfaction outcomes, as well as infection measures for Clostridium difficile and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. The weighted score for each hospital was then translated into a letter grade. Leapfrog utilizes national performance measures from the Leapfrog Annual Survey, The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to provide a single composite score.
