Med centers unite from North Jersey to the Shore

The parent company of Hackensack University Medical Center and its related hospitals in Westwood, North Bergen and Montclair merged Tuesday with a seven-hospital system on the Jersey Shore to form the state’s second-largest health system, the latest example of the accelerating consolidation of the health care business in New Jersey.

The new system will bring together ownership of services ranging from home care to advanced organ transplants across a swath of the state from Bergen County to Ocean County.

Hackensack Meridian Health, as the new system is known, will have 6,000 affiliated physicians and 28,000 employees when the paperwork is completed on July 1.
