Hackensack Meridian Health is pleased to announce that two of its hospital presidents have been named to the “110 Physician Leaders of Hospitals and Health Systems” list by Becker’s Hospital Review: Ihor S. Sawczuk, M.D., president of Hackensack University Medical Center; and Kenneth N. Sable, M.D., president of Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
The list, a version of which has been published since 2010, features presidents and CEOs of hospitals and health systems who hold medical degrees. They are selected based upon their leadership and demonstrated clinical expertise.
“Congratulations to Drs. Sawczuk and Sable on this national recognition,” said Robert C. Garrett, co-CEO of Hackensack Meridian Health. “Both leaders have proven their incredible aptitude to lead these world-class hospitals in a relatively short amount of time. We are proud to have physicians of their stature as part of our health network.”
“Hackensack Meridian Health recruits some of the finest physician leaders in the nation,” said John K. Lloyd, co-CEO of Hackensack Meridian Health. “Drs. Sawczuk and Sable are a direct reflection of this commitment. As presidents of the first and fourth ranked hospitals in New Jersey (respectively), we are reaffirming Hackensack Meridian Health’s dedication to the best possible care within our hospitals—from our presidents across our entire team of professionals.”
In April of this year, Dr. Sawczuk transitioned from his role as executive vice president and chief medical officer to become the new president of HackensackUMC, succeeding Garrett. He has been part of HackensackUMC for more than 15 years in varying leadership roles: executive vice president, chief medical officer, vice president of Academic Affairs and chairperson of the Department of Urology. During his tenure as the Urology chair, the department was ranked as one of the 50 best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.
Dr. Sable joined Hackensack Meridian Health in his current position in January of 2015. Prior to joining the network, he served as executive vice president and chief operating officer of Saint Peter’s Healthcare System in New Brunswick, NJ; and vice chairman for operations in the Emergency Department at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY.
