K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital at Jersey Shore University Medical Center was selected as a charitable partner of Spirit Halloween’s Spirit of Children program, which provides fun and funding to its partner hospitals during the Halloween season and all year long. As part of the Spirit of Children program, 11 Spirit Halloween stores in the local area will conduct in-store fundraising campaigns that will specifically benefit the Child Life Program at K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital. In addition to collecting in-store donations, when customers utilize Spirit Halloween’s 10-for10 coupon, they receive 10% off their purchase and Spirit Halloween will match it with a 10% donation.
“We are extremely grateful to begin this partnership with Spirit of Children,” explains Kenneth N. Sable, M.D., MBA, FACEP, president of Jersey Shore University Medical Center. “The money they raise year after year to support Child Life makes a huge difference in the lives of so many young patients.”

Led by trained pediatric experts, the Child Life Program at K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital provides a variety of activities throughout the day to help create a fun and positive environment in the hospital and helps alleviate the stress associated with illness. Whether it’s bedside, in playrooms or in the teen lounge, special activities may include art therapy, pet therapy, music therapy, and “medical play” to communicate detailed medical information to children in an age appropriate manner.
Since the launch of Spirit of Children’s fundraising component in 2007, the program has raised more than $29 million in cash and merchandise donations. In 2015, Spirit of Children worked with over 130 children’s hospitals across the United States and Canada. Every dollar donated goes directly to the partner hospitals’ Child Life departments.
