Becker’s Hospital Review has named Hackensack Meridian Health to the 2016 edition of its list of 100 ACOs to Know which features standout accountable care organizations from around the country. Hackensack Meridian Health was named to the list thanks its strong portfolio of accountable care organizations (ACO) which boast some of the strongest quality scores in the nation.
New Jersey’s Hackensack University Health Network and Meridian Health merged in July 2016, bringing together their nationally recognized ACOs. In 2015, the HackensackAlliance ACO saved more than saved more than $33 million through the Medicare Shared Savings Program, placing it seventh in the nation for total savings. Meanwhile, Meridian charted new territory this year through its creation of a co-branded ACO agreement with Aetna which includes health providers participating in the Meridian Health Partners clinically integrated network.
“We are honored to be included on this list and to be recognized as one of the best ACOs in country,” Patrick Young, president of Population Health for Hackensack Meridian Health. “Hackensack Meridian Health is committed to improving efficiency while providing our patients with unparalleled quality care.”
Hackensack Meridian Health’s ACOs oversee the care of more than 160,000 lives throughout New Jersey with nearly 2,500 physicians participating.
“The success of our ACOs is built upon the dedication and collaboration among our participating health care providers,” Mark D. Sparta, executive vice president of Clinical Operations for Hackensack Meridian Health. “Thanks to our physician partners, our ACOs have grown and prospered enabling us to meet our goal of delivering patient-centric care.”
Inclusion in Becker’s Hospital Review list of 100 ACOs to Know was based on quality and cost performance, participation in CMS’ Next Generation Model, the Pioneer Model, advanced tracks of the Medicare Shared Savings Program, and number of recently formed commercial contracts.
