Patients and families can review measures related to patient experience, readmission rates, and health care-associated infections
Hackensack Meridian Health has launched a new website to further support its company culture of high reliability, in which patient safety and quality are hardwired into everything they do. The website, MeridianHealth.com/Quality, showcases the quality of care being provided at the hospitals that were originally part of Meridian Health prior to the merger with Hackensack University Health Network, including Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, Ocean Medical Center in Brick, Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, Southern Ocean Medical Center in Manahawkin, Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel, Raritan Bay Medical Center in Old Bridge, and Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy.
Hackensack Meridian Health launched the site with the knowledge that making hospital data accessible helps patients and families with their health care decisions. It is designed to make often complex quality of care measures, including patient experience, readmission rates, and health care-associated infections, more understandable and provides comparative data for both national and New Jersey ratios.
“The more information on a hospital’s performance, the more our guests can make informed health care decisions and we can work to further improve the safety of our care,” says Marty Scott, M.D., senior vice president and Co-Chief Quality Officer at Hackensack Meridian Health. “Patient safety is extremely important to us all and we continue to institute evidence-based processes throughout our health network that have already resulted in significant improvements in quality and safety measures at our hospitals.”
Over the past few years, Hackensack Meridian Health has made strides in reducing the number of health care-associated infections that cause patients harm and has a goal of zero infections, all the time. For example, the health system convened system-wide, multi-disciplinary teams to review the evidence for catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) and central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI) to create a structured way of improving care processes and patient outcomes. Due to these efforts, Bayshore Community Hospital recently marked a milestone of zero CAUTI infections for over one year, and Jersey Shore University Medical Center’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit reached a significant milestone of not having a CLABSI or CAUTI infection in over five years.
“We monitor quality and safety data daily to look for opportunities for improvement,” says Dr. Scott. “We hope that these measures shed light on our continual journey to achieving the highest quality and patient satisfaction in our hospitals and partner companies.”
