Hackensack Meridian Health Jersey Shore University Medical Center Foundation has announced John Giunco, Esq. as the new chair of the Jersey Shore University Medical Center Foundation Board of Trustees. Giunco, a resident of Colts Neck, currently practices Land Use & Development Law and Renewable Energy Law at the firm of Giordano, Halleran & Ciesla, where he has worked since 1983. He is very active in the real estate law community, including teaching courses at Monmouth University and sharing his expertise with local organizations and continuing legal education students.
“I am thrilled to be a part of Jersey Shore’s Foundation, supporting significant advancements such as the exciting HOPE Tower project,” explained Giunco. “As Hackensack Meridian Health grows, so does the level of innovation, quality of care, and access to state-of-the-art technologies. We are very fortunate to have this academic medical center right in our backyard.”
Prior to Giunco, Peter Cancro, founder and CEO of Jersey Mike’s Franchise Systems, Inc., served in the role of Chair from 2012-2016.
“John was part of the first cohort of the Jersey Shore Foundation board in 1978 and has been a strong supporter ever since,” explained Kenneth N. Sable, M.D., MBA, FACEP, president of Jersey Shore University Medical Center and K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital. “We are pleased to welcome him in this new role and are confident that under his leadership we will continue to build meaningful relationships with the community while garnering transformational philanthropic support.”
In John Giunco’s new position, he is excited to also welcome Burt Barham and Robert Smith to the board of trustees. Barham is returning to the Foundation board, having most recently served for three consecutive terms from 2007-2015. He also served as a governor of Jersey Shore University Medical Center and formerly worked with The Barham Group LLC, a construction contracting business based in Tinton Falls. Barham is also a director of the Two Rivers Reclamation Authority, past chief of the Monmouth Beach Fire Department and a former member of the Monmouth Beach First Aid Squad.
Robert Smith is founder and CEO of The Allied Group, a construction services company located in Neptune, NJ, that specializes in renovating hospitality market segments including hotels, resorts, conference centers and restaurants throughout the United States. In 2007, The Allied Group was recognized by Entrepreneur Magazine’s Hot 500 list of Fastest-Growing Businesses in America, as well as a NJ Best Place to Work in 2010. Smith also sits on the board of the Wall Township Business and Finance Academy and The Society for the Prevention of Teen Suicide and actively supports the community through many organizations including Catholic Charities and Hope for the Warriors.
