A recent study published in the journal Sleep offers a good excuse for sleeping in. The researchers studied the sleep habits of more than 30,000 people in the U.K. for four years. They found that those who improved their quality and duration of sleep, and used less medication to sleep, also improved their overall well-being. Alternately, a lack of sleep, poor-quality sleep, and using sleeping medication all contributed to poorer physical and mental health.
“Getting enough sleep is one easy way to improve your overall health,” says Rana Ali, M.D., a board-certified sleep medicine physician at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. “If you need help sleeping or dealing with stress, talk with your doctor.”
