JFK Neurosurgery Program

The Neuroscience Institute at JFK University Medical Center provides patients with a comprehensive line up of services for spine injuries, concussion, epilepsy, MS, ALS, brain tumors, memory, and more, as well as the region’s only Stroke Rescue Center.

JFK University Medical Center was recognized by Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals, in 2020 and 2021 with the Neurosciences Excellence Award.

Our neurosurgeons use some of the latest technology to perform complex procedures, providing patients with the best chance of a positive outcome. Our advanced technology includes:

Precision Virtual Reality Platform

As early adopters of virtual reality technology, our neurosurgeons are the first in New Jersey — and one of only 20 centers in the nation — to have access to the Precision Virtual Reality medical visualization platform.

JFK Neurosurgeons

Primarily used to plan complex brain surgery procedures, this technology allows surgeons to precisely reconstruct a patient’s anatomy and offers patients the opportunity to “take a walk inside their brain”. By utilizing 3D imaging technology, our patients can see inside their own anatomy and pathology to better understand their neurological condition and the surgical procedure planned for their treatment.

Gamma Knife

Our center is the first in New Jersey to offer Gamma Knife®, which uses precisely focused radiation beams to provide noninvasive treatment of benign and cancerous abnormalities in the brain.

With Gamma Knife, conditions that previously required open surgery, are now treated without a single incision. This approach may lead to a shorter hospital stay, faster recovery, lower risk of complications and improved outcomes. Conditions treated with Gamma Knife include:

  • Arteriovenous malformation (AVM)
  • Acoustic neuromas
  • Carcinoma
  • Chondrosarcoma
