Protecting your personal information—as well as our network’s data—is a top priority, especially as cyber threats rapidly increase. That is why HMH is introducing ID.me, a trusted identity‑proofing platform that uses facial recognition to confirm that you are the “person behind the screen” when you need to verify your identity. 

How it Works

With ID.me, you create a personal, secure digital identity wallet. This wallet belongs to you and gives you control over your information. It allows trusted organizations, like HMH, to verify your identity with confidence. You can also use your ID.me wallet with other participating organizations such as the IRS, Social Security Administration, and many others. 

How ID.me Protects Your Data

ID.me has a strict privacy policy and uses bank-grade encryption to secure your information. ID.me always tells you the information you are about to share and who you are sharing it with. You always have the ability to revoke access if you choose. HMH only receives the information necessary to verify your identity. ID.me does not share your full Social Security number and biometric data with HMH. 

Getting Enrolled

If you have an ID.me wallet

Use the enrollment link to sign in to your existing wallet and follow the prompts to consent to allow HMH to verify your identity.

If you do not have an ID.me wallet

1. You will need the following:
   • A Personal Email: To control your data and who you share it with, beyond HMH.
   • A Government-Issued Photo ID: To confirm your identity and photo.
   • Your Social Security number SSN: For secure identity verification against trusted records.
   • A device with a camera: To complete a facial scan (video selfie) that confirms the person enrolling is you.
2. Use the enrollment link and select “Create a wallet.ˮ

Important Note: ID.me will ask you to set up multi-factor authentication (MFA) to secure your wallet. This step-by-step guide outlines how to set up your preferred MFA and, if applicable, download the ID.me Authenticator App on your personal device from the App Store or Google Play
