Department of Urology Achieves 60% Acceptance with 12 Abstracts at AUA Annual Meeting

New Jersey’s #1 Hospital and #1 Urology Program Shares Their Expertise in Urology

Hackensack University Medical Center’s Urology Program, New Jersey’s only nationally ranked Urology Program – also recognized as New Jersey’s Best Urology Program since 2013 – presented 12 abstracts at the American Urological Association’s (AUA) 2021 Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada.

While the average acceptance rate for abstracts is 25 percent, a full 60 percent of the department’s submitted abstracts were accepted this year, including four abstracts recognized as exceptional and slated for podium presentations.

Topics presented by HUMC urology department physicians included:

  • Single-port robotic surgery
  • Surgical management of erectile dysfunction
  • Advanced imaging for kidney cancer
  • Complex robotic urinary reconstructions, and
  • Management of advanced bladder cancer and kidney cancer.

“We’re sharing our knowledge to educate other faculty and departments across the country, ” said Michael D. Stifelman, M.D., Professor and Chair Urology, Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine, Department Chair Urology, Hackensack University Medical Center, Director Urologic Oncology, John Theurer Cancer Center, and Director Robotic Surgery, Hackensack Meridian Health. “Our 60 percent AUA acceptance rate reflects our incredible team of urologists known both nationally and worldwide for excellence, dedication to research and a commitment to providing advanced, evidence-based care.”

The department includes 40 urologists, many with advanced fellowship training in a range of urologic disciplines including urologic oncology, infertility, stone disease, sexual dysfunction, female urology and pediatric urology.
