The Helping Angels Organization Raises Funds To Support Children In Speech Therapy At Hackensack Meridian Health Palisades Medical Center
June 06, 2018
Members of The Helping Angels, a local non-profit professional women’s organization, recently made a generous $13,000 donation to support a voice technology program that will help children in Speech Therapy at Hackensack Meridian Health Palisades Medical Center. The Helping Angels raised the funds by organizing a special black-tie gala in April at The Stony Hill Inn in Hackensack, NJ.
Hackensack Meridian Health Palisades Medical Center’s licensed speech-language pathologists develop communication by improving speech, language, voice, social, feeding and swallowing skills to the children in our local communities. Thanks to The Helping Angels’ donation, pathologists can now give a “voice” to children who lack the ability to communicate.
According to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, about one in 12 (7.7 percent) American children between 3 and 17 has a disorder relating to voice, speech, language, or swallowing. Additionally, by first grade, nearly five percent of children have noticeable speech disorders (including stuttering and dysarthria — difficult articulation).
