Lung and Esophageal Cancer Care Keeps Getting Better

A lung cancer diagnosis is overwhelming and life-changing. Choosing the right hospital is one of many decisions you will be making.

Quality:  John Theurer Cancer Center is part of the Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, a National Cancer Institute designated comprehensive cancer center.  Two strong institutions that share a passion and expertise for developing new therapies to improve outcomes for patients with cancer.

John Theurer Cancer Center is designated as a Lung Cancer Screening Center of Excellence by the Lung Cancer Alliance.

Several of our institutions have earned dual awards from The Joint Commission for Lung and Esophageal cancer programs.

Jersey Shore University Medical Center is the first in New Jersey to earn The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Lung Cancer Certification, a distinction that only a few hospitals in the country have earned. It is also the first certified organization for Esophageal Cancer in the United States, by the Joint Commission.

Riverview Medical Center is a Designated Lung Cancer Screening Center by the American College of Radiology for being a top quality provider of safe, effective diagnostic imaging for individuals at high risk for lung cancer.

Our surgeons are fully accredited with advanced training in state-of-the-art robotic surgery techniques and have performed more than xxxx  robotic procedures performed in the last decade.

Innovation:   Through our partnership with the National Cancer Institute’s Immunology branch, Georgetown University’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy and Memorial Sloan Kettering, we are propelling advances in novel anticancer treatments, including immunotherapy and cellular therapies.

Phase I studies are the first step of evaluation of a new drug in patients. John Theurer Cancer Center has the highest number of Phase I clinical trials in New Jersey, providing you with the earliest access to promising new anticancer therapies.

Our highly experienced robotic surgeons are distinguished as world leaders in robotic surgery.

Patient Experience:   We use minimally invasive surgical methods whenever possible. Compared with traditional open surgery, minimally invasive surgery results in smaller incisions, a shorter hospital stay, less pain after surgery and a faster recovery time so you can get back to doing the things you enjoy.

Excellence:  Many lung surgeries in the United States are performed by general surgeons. At John Theurer Cancer Center, board-certified thoracic oncology surgeons perform these procedures.

We are among only a few hospitals in the United States that use the latest robotic techniques to treat conditions affecting the chest, lungs and airway.

Your team of cancer experts includes board-certified thoracic surgeons with the highest level of training possible in their field; thoracic medical oncologists who oversee chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other medical treatments; radiation oncologists; pathologists; radiologists; nurses; social workers; and others with expertise in the care of people with lung cancer and thoracic cancers.
