“Dream big, work hard, anything is possible” – New Jersey businessman, Pritam Singh Grewal, lived by these words. He personified the American Dream.

Today, Hackensack Meridian Hackensack University Medical Center unveiled a mural   immortalizing Pritam’s words of wisdom in the Max McGuire Memorial Garden, on the one year anniversary of his death.

The fresco, commissioned by Pritam’s family, was painted by famed artist  Cortney Wall and honors the life of a man who lived in selfless service to his community. Pritam was paralyzed from the neck down after a car accident during Superstorm Sandy. He had just finished helping first responders from Hackensack Meridian Hackensack University Medical Center refuel their vehicles so they could get back on the road quickly.

Guests attending today’s unveiling included New Jersey Governor Philip D. Murphy; Pritam’s nephew, New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal; New Jersey dignitaries; family members; Hackensack Meridian Health CEO Bob Garrett; Hackensack University Medical Center President Mark Sparta; and Hackensack Meridian Health Board of Trustees and team members.

“Pritam Grewal found his American Dream in New Jersey. Pritam literally gave of himself during Superstorm Sandy and continued to pour out his heart to this community and this state which gave him so much. His philanthropic pursuits set a legacy that will continue to positively change North Jersey for years to come. That spirit is what we honor here today. And, there is no greater measure of pride than in seeing the contributions made to our present and our future by all those who have joined our New Jersey Family,” said Governor Murphy.

The mural will also honor all patients of the hospital, past and present and provide hope and comfort to their families and the dedicated health care heroes who care for them.
