Hackensack Meridian Health Announces National Recognition of Two of its Leaders Among Becker’s Women Leaders in Health IT to Know

Hackensack Meridian Health is pleased to announce national recognition of two of its leaders, Lauren Koniaris, M.D., chief medical informatics officer of the Northern Region of Hackensack Meridian Health, and Sandra Powell-Elliott, BS, MBA, vice president for Life Sciences and Innovation at Hackensack Meridian Health, with placement on the Becker’s Hospital Review list of 70 Women Leaders in Health IT to Know.

“I want to congratulate Lauren Koniaris and Sandra Powell-Elliott on these well-deserved recognitions,” said Robert C. Garrett, FACHE, chief executive officer of Hackensack Meridian Health. “Their contributions in the important area of Health IT are key to advancing our mission to transform health care and serve as a leader of positive change.”

In her role, Dr. Koniaris works to ensure all clinical workflows and processes at each hospital division are accounted for and modified as needed to ensure safe and effective patient care as electronic health records (EHR) are implemented and integrated. Accounting for ways in which physicians receive information and how that will change is essential and detail-oriented work for IT departments. The goal is for Hackensack Meridian Health to leverage EHR to positively impact health care throughout the state of New Jersey and beyond.

Ms. Powell-Elliott’s responsibilities include the development and implementation of the Life Sciences Research Enterprise at the Hackensack Meridian Center for Discovery and Innovation as well as the development and implementation of a network-wide innovation strategy, fostering new ideas and opportunities internally and leveraging external innovation.

According to Becker’s, women are increasingly becoming involved with health IT, thanks to the many women who have pioneered in the field for years. This list of women to watch in health IT includes those who have accomplished much over the years and rising stars in the field.
