May 06, 2021

The designation recognizes the academic medical center's efforts in protecting patients from harm and providing safer health care.

Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center earned an 'A' from The Leapfrog Group as part of the Spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade report.  The designation recognizes the academic medical center's efforts in protecting patients from harm and providing safer health care.

"We have an amazing team of nurses, physicians, and supportive team members, who, we like to say 'perform miracles here every day,'" said Vito Buccellato, MPA, LNHA, president and chief hospital executive, Jersey Shore University Medical Center. "This is a great recognition of their hard work."

The Leapfrog Group that provides the grading program, is a national nonprofit organization committed to improving health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers.  The Safety Grade assigns an 'A', 'B', 'C', 'D,' or 'F' grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections, and other harms to patients in their care.

"I'd like to congratulate the entire medical staff and all team members at Jersey Shore," said Kenneth N. Sable, M.D., MBA, FACEP, Hackensack Meridian Health, regional president, southern market.  "Despite the pandemic, I know they continue their commitment to protect our patients and everyone at our academic medical center from harm."

Developed under the guidance of a national Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade's methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.
