I Am in Need of Diagnostic Testing
The most effective care for brain and spinal cord tumors starts with an accurate diagnosis. At the Brain & Spine Tumor Center, we use advanced diagnostic tools to locate and identify tumors and match patients with treatments tailored to the biology of their disease. Our team includes a neuropathologist with advanced training in the diagnosis of neurological diseases. We also employ state-of-the-art technologies such as:
- 3T MRI. Our imaging center houses advanced imaging technologies not readily available at many hospitals, such as 3T MRI. Most hospitals use MRI scanners with a magnetic field strength of 1.5T; our 3T unit employs a stronger magnetic field that enables our neuroradiologists to differentiate between benign and serious conditions with confidence.
- Functional and diffusion tensor MRI. We use these advanced technologies to delineate critical areas of brain function and how close they are to your tumor. Neurosurgeons rely on the results of these special scans to plan surgery—removing as much tumor tissue as possible while sparing brain tissue that is important for vital functions such as speech and movement.
- MR spectroscopy and PET imaging. These imaging techniques can help distinguish between tumors and non-tumor lesions in the brain.
