Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship

Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship Program

Welcome Message from the Program Director

Thank you for your interest in the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship program at Hackensack University Medical Center! I speak for both myself and the rest of the faculty when I say that educating the next generation of cardiovascular physicians is an honor and a privilege.

We have fashioned an innovative program that puts a priority on experiential learning in a state-of-the-art hospital with cutting-edge technology while also grounding that training in the principles of evidence-based practice. We also encourage our trainees to question accepted wisdom and to push the boundaries of knowledge through research and investigation.

We look forward to helping you discover what Hackensack Meridian University Cardiology Fellowship has to offer.

Mission:

The Hackensack University Medical Center Cardiology Fellowship Program will train physicians to be superb consultant cardiologists who provide a compassionate, cognitive, scholarly, relationship-oriented approach to the care of patients. The fellows and faculty are committed to expanding the larger knowledge and practice of the discipline of cardiology and bringing that innovative understanding to the bedside in a humanistic manner. Our program aims to serve and learn from the engagement of underrepresented minority populations among students, faculty, staff, and the community. The fellowship creates an environment that fosters life-long learning and innovation in the service of patients. Furthermore, the Cardiology fellowship is a community of practice where fellows and faculty support each other, as they meet the challenge and embrace the privilege of providing such care.

Core Values:

  1. Stewardship of patient-centered, compassionate, high-quality clinical care
  2. Building and supporting an educational community
  3. Represent the highest ethical and professional character

Structure:

We have a 3 year general cardiology program with 2 fellows per year at Hackensack - allowing for a highly favorable faculty:fellow ratio amongst all aspects of inpatient, outpatient, and procedural cardiovascular care. The fellowship functions as an integral component of the internal medicine residency program, and both programs are fully accredited by the ACGME. The cardiology division also has advanced subspecialty training programs in interventional cardiology, structural heart disease, and heart failure. The Heart & Vascular Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center brings specialists together, utilizes the latest scientific data, and always puts the needs of the patient first. Our programs in interventional cardiology, cardiac surgery and stroke care have consistently placed us in the top 5% of hospitals in the nation, and earned us high marks with independent ratings agencies. The Society of Chest Pain Centers has honored the Heart & Vascular Hospital as an Accredited Chest Pain Center. Additionally, we are ranked among the top 50 heart hospitals in the country by U.S. News andWorld Report—and are the highest ranked in the state of New Jersey for cardiology and heart surgery. Finally, we have also been recognized by the American College of Cardiology as a “HeartCARE Center” with national distinction of excellence for 2022. By promoting collaborative care, integrating tomorrow’s technology, improving clinical efficiency, and delivering the region’s broadest array of services as cost-effectively as possible, we continue to grow as a leading center for cardiovascular health. The Clinical Cardiology section has over 142 cardiologists supplying a comprehensive range of clinical services from primary prevention of cardiovascular disease to the most advanced interventions for advanced disease to cardiac rehabilitation for secondary prevention of cardiac events.
