Hackensack Meridian Rehabilitation at Edison

About Us

Our team has been providing therapeutic services to children from birth through adolescence since 1977. We are one of the largest outpatient facilities of its kind for children in the area.

To register your child for this program — located in Edison, New Jersey — and complete an intake for evaluation, please call 732-548-7610.

Outpatient Therapy Services

When a physician or school recommends that a child be tested for developmental delays, other disabilities, behavioral or learning problems, our Child Evaluation Center can provide medically and educationally based assessments.

Funded in part by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, we work closely with our community pediatricians and other specialized pediatric physicians to provide coordinated therapeutic care for your child. Even children with the most challenging and complex developmental and physical disabilities can benefit from our help.

You and Me Autism Program

The You and Me Autism Program serves children up to age 6 with an autism diagnosis. This daily center based program runs from 9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Our team of board certified behavior analysts (BCBA), special educators and registered behavior technicians (RBTs) uses the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). ABA is a data-driven science dedicated to studying and improving human behavior supported by decades of evidence based research. ABA is considered the gold standard in autism intervention.

Early Intervention Program at JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute

The Early Intervention Program is a state and federally subsidized program for infants and toddlers from birth up to age three with developmental delays or a known medical condition/diagnosis that has a high probability of resulting in a developmental delay. All services are provided in the child's "natural environment", for example, the home, child care center, etc.

Early Intervention recognizes and respects the important and central role of the family in their young child's life. The purpose of early intervention is to address a problem or delay in development as early as possible and to support the family in facilitating their child's development within the family's daily routines through parent training.

Eligibility for the program is determined by an initial evaluation conducted in the home by a team of qualified  professionals in conjunction with the family. Information is gathered regarding all developmental areas:

  • Gross motor skills
  • Fine motor skills
  • Communication
  • Cognitive/play skills
  • Adaptive skills
  • Personal-social development

As a contracted agency with the NJ Department of Health's Early Intervention System, we are the exclusive provider of all initial evaluations for families living in Middlesex County.

If a child is found eligible following the evaluation, an Individualized Family Service Plan is developed by the family together with the team to describe the outcomes the family would like to work on and the services needed by the child and family to achieve those outcomes. Services for your family are then arranged through one of the contracted agencies for ongoing intervention.

If you suspect your infant or toddler under age three may be demonstrating developmental delays, call The Regional System Point of Entry toll free number at 1-888-653-4463 to request an initial evaluation.
