Hackensack Meridian Health is pleased to announce that Helena Theurer, board member of the Hackensack University Medical Center Foundation, and Andre Goy, M.D., M.S., chair and director of the John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center, were recently honored at the American Cancer Society’s 40th Annual Diamond Ball. The ball was held at Westmount Country Club in Woodland Park, NJ. The Wizard of Oz themed event for the Ruby anniversary focused on courageous cancer patients, compassionate volunteers and innovative medical experts in the oncology field.

“This year, we celebrate a significant milestone with 40 years and just in the past 10 years alone we have raised more than $2 million for our organization,” said Denise Buckley, Community Development manager for the American Cancer Society. “This would not be possible without the businesses and individuals who give of their time, money and talents each year. Together, we have made an important impact on cancer, enabling us to continue funding research, and patient programs and services that help our New Jersey residents battling this disease.”

This year, Ms. Theurer was honored with the 16th Annual Jody A. Morrow Humanitarian Award and Dr. Goy was honored as one of seven accomplished medical honorees. The American Cancer Society is currently funding seven research grants in New Jersey totaling $3.25 million dollars.

“I am honored to be awarded the 16th Annual Jody A. Morrow Humanitarian Award,” said Mrs. Theurer. “Ms. Morrow’s devotion to the American Cancer Society enriched the lives of so many and her memory continues to be a source of inspiration for those who knew her. I am in awe of the courageous spirit she possessed and her unwavering commitment in the fight against cancer.”

“We have made significant progress in treating cancer in recent years, and the American Cancer Society is leading the way in discovering groundbreaking, new treatments,” said Dr. Goy.  “I look forward to working with the organization to continue finding the next generation of cutting-edge therapies, enhancing care and improving patient outcomes in the years to come.”
