Developed by international teams of engineers and surgeons, including three from Hackensack Meridian Health, robotic-assisted approaches offer several benefits over traditional total knee replacement:

  • Cuts in the bones are perfectly precise, allowing the surgeon to place the implant components in just the right position.
  • Uses X-rays or CT scans to create a 3D model of the patient’s knee to ensure the most precise implant fit.
  • The robot can be used to achieve exacting implant placement so that it mimics the patient’s anatomy, achieving a more natural-feeling knee. It can even reduce the need for additional surgery to correct or replace the implant.

We were also one of four health systems in the country to participate in a clinical trial for robotic-assisted total knee replacement surgery to treat severe osteoarthritis. This FDA-approved system uses 3D CT scans to select the ideal implant and define the optimal implant placement and alignment based on your unique anatomy.
