$3 and a Big Heart

June 21, 2023
Philanthropic gifts come in all sizes, and so do our donors! Earlier this month, four-year-old Maddie Troeller participated in Home Away From Home Academy’s annual fundraiser to benefit the ALS Center, part of the Dr. Robert H. Harris Neuroscience Treatment Center at Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
She and her friends happily hopped and danced to raise $2,000 to support patient care. But, Maddie wanted to give more. While at home, she took $1 out of her personal piggy bank. She decided shortly thereafter that $1 wasn’t enough and went back for an additional $2, bringing the total amount raised to $2,003.
“Maddie took the initiative all on her own,” her mother, Lindsay Rubin-Troeller, said. “I didn’t say anything. She told me she needed money to help people that can’t move well. When I told her I donated online, she said she wanted to give her own money.”
Way to go, Maddie! We thank the students at Home Away From Home Academy for their continued support of our ALS Center at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, and applaud Maddie for her generosity!
