Internal Medicine Doctor Sees the Beauty in Each Patient

Neha Bangia, M.D., sits on the ground and smiles at the camera.

Neha Bangia, M.D., believes every patient experience enlightens her more about human interaction.

As an internal medicine physician, she enjoys interacting with her patients and addressing their health concerns. She strives to create a “family feeling” in her practice.

“If you are happy, you spread happiness around you automatically. I think about that when I create a relationship with a patient,” she says.

Dr. Bangia excelled in science as a child and initially thought about becoming a dentist. However, her parents convinced her to pursue medicine. And after 20 years, she’s certain this is where she should be. Dr. Bangia practices in Old Bridge, New Jersey, and is affiliated with Old Bridge Medical Center and Raritan Bay Medical Center. She speaks English, Hindi and Punjabi.

You practice Rajyoga meditation. Tell us more about that.

This type of meditation allows us to be a “king” over our own senses — the creator of our thoughts, so nothing can bother us. We learn to guide our mind and be friends with it, to be independent of our emotions and not rely on them.

How do your meditative beliefs help you manage day-to-day stress?

I have a spiritual practice in my life, and I know we are all beautiful beings. As a child, you probably didn’t get angry often. If you stick to your original peaceful, true nature, that gives you more power to accept things.

What do you do when you’re not in the office?

I do Zumba, a dance workout. Sometimes, I jump onto the elliptical machine, and I practice breathing exercises from traditional yoga. I try to do these before I go to the office or in the evening. I also volunteer to teach meditation.

If you could be an animal, which would you choose?

A dog. They are so happy, so faithful, and seem to quickly pick up on what you’re feeling.

What is your best advice for patients?

Cook food for yourself, so you can follow a healthy diet. Find a physical activity that you can do consistently. Incorporate meditation or self-reflection time for yourself to keep your mind healthy as well.
