A Selfless Tribute

What began as a generous act of philanthropy became a moving tribute to one of Bayshore Medical Center’s most beloved caregivers.

After the physicians of NJ Weight Loss Doctors made a $50,000 gift to Bayshore Medical Center Foundation, plans were initially underway to dedicate a plaque in their honor. But the practice had something far more personal in mind.

Led by Karl Strom, M.D., along with Richard Greco, D.O., Silvia Fresco, M.D., and Jonathan Reich, M.D., the surgical team decided to dedicate the plaque to Suzanne Cassaro, a retired nurse whose 52-year career at Bayshore touched countless lives. Known for her friendship, kindness and unwavering commitment to patients and colleagues alike, Suzanne’s legacy continues to embody the very best of Bayshore’s culture of compassion.

Earlier this month, Dr. Strom and the Center for Weight Loss team, joined by Caitlin Miller, president and chief hospital executive of Bayshore Medical Center, and members of Bayshore’s administration, surprised Suzanne with a private dedication ceremony in her honor. The moment was filled with emotion and gratitude as colleagues celebrated her decades of service and dedication to excellence in patient care.

"It was such an unexpected surprise. I was speechless!" said Suzanne. "I became a nurse to help patients, but to be recognized by the doctors who I worked alongside is such a humbling reminder of the relationships we build along the way. We became a family." 

The plaque, now permanently displayed at Bayshore, stands as a lasting tribute to Suzanne’s remarkable career and the profound impact she has had on generations of patients and team members.

"Suzanne has done so much for our patients, and for our practice," said Dr. Strom. "We couldn't think of a more fitting way to honor Suzanne's career at Bayshore and celebrate her retirement."
