January 07, 2019
Hackensack Meridian Health Palisades Medical Center is pleased to announce that John C. Meditz, a lifelong resident of Hudson County, has made a contribution of $10 million to improve the lives of the people in his community by enhancing and expanding the Palisades Medical Center Emergency Department.
“We are deeply grateful for John’s motivational leadership and inspirational generosity,” said Robert C. Garrett, CEO of Hackensack Meridian Health. “A valued member of our health care team of benefactors and trustees, John cares deeply about leading by example in order to elevate and advance the health and well-being of others.”
Mr. Meditz’s contribution is the largest gift in the history of Palisades Medical Center. A co-founder of Horizon Asset Management, now Horizon Kinetics, LLC, and a dedicated philanthropist, his goal is to strengthen patient services and programs at Palisades, making an exponential impact by inspiring others to give.
“We have long benefitted from John’s generosity and counsel, and his latest gift is transformational for our medical center,” said Anthony Passannante, M.D., president of Palisades Medical Center. “John is directly aligned with our vision to grow and evolve as part of the Hackensack Meridian Health network.”
Mr. Meditz was appointed to the Palisades Medical Center Board of Governors in 1997 and served as chair from 2009 until 2011. He is widely recognized as a driving force that helped establish the Palisades Medical Center Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the medical center, in 1999.
“John’s leadership and outstanding example will strengthen our fundraising outreach as we work to fund our strategic priorities,” said Joseph Burt, vice president of Development, Hackensack Meridian Health. “In gratitude and recognition, we are honored to name our main hospital building the John C. Meditz Medical Pavilion.”
Mr. Meditz currently serves as chair of the Palisades Foundation Board, a member of the Hackensack University Medical Center Foundation Board, and as a member of the Hackensack Meridian Health Board of Trustees, the governing body for the health network.
“I am committed to making a positive difference on behalf of Palisades Medical Center’s patients and their families as the medical center expands even further through Hackensack Meridian Health, with groundbreaking initiatives including the Center for Discovery and Innovation, to foster the emergence of medical breakthroughs,” said Mr. Meditz. “It is my pleasure and privilege to do what I can to help.”
