Panel addresses fentanyl’s role in opioid epidemic

Hackensack Meridian Health presented a panel discussion at the Wyckoff YMCA regarding the opioid crisis. Robert C. Garrett, CEO of Hackensack Meridian Health, was joined by Mark D. Sparta, FACHE, president and chief hospital executive of Hackensack University Medical Center; Michael A. Kelly, M.D., chair, Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine and chair, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Hackensack University Medical Center; Gurbir Grewal, New Jersey Attorney General; Donald Parker, president and chief hospital executive, Carrier Clinic; Alexis Totaro, RN, administrative director, Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Services, Hackensack University Medical Center;  and Rep. Josh Gottheimer, (D-NJ). The panelists addressed the impact of opioid addiction on communities, the rise in the number of people impacted, the number of lives lost and the increasing number of treatment options that are available. Solutions aimed at curtailing the opioid crisis in New Jersey were also addressed. (Note: this was also featured in the Fort Lee Patch, Hasbrouck Heights Patch and the Westwood-Hillsdale Patch.)
