Hackensack University Medical Center Named to Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals 2021 List

Hackensack Meridian Hackensack University Medical Center has again ranked among the top hospitals in the Newsweek’s 2021 World’s Best Hospitals list. The list ranks the hospital among the top 200 hospitals in the world and the top 13 percent of all general hospitals in the United States.

The publication also recognizes Hackensack University Medical Center on it’s “Best Hospitals for Infection Prevention,” for exceptional performance in the practice of Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Infection Prevention measures.

“Our mission is to deliver world-class care, and this award demonstrates that we are achieving our goal,'' said Robert C. Garrett, FACHE, CEO, Hackensack Meridian Health. “We are proud of our extraordinary teams who continue to deliver for our patients every day.''

“Combining innovation, safety, technology and experience with compassionate patient care allows our hospital to consistently rank among the top hospitals in the U.S. and the world,” said Mark D. Sparta, FACHE, president and chief hospital executive, Hackensack University Medical Center.

The prestigious award is presented by Newsweek and Statista Inc., the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider. The awards list was announced on March 3, 2021, and can be viewed on Newsweek’s website at https://www.newsweek.com/best-hospitals-2021.

Newsweek and Statista developed a complex methodology to ensure the quality and validity of the ranking. Three data sources were used for the evaluation:

Hospital recommendations from peers through an international online survey included more than 74,000 doctors, hospital managers and healthcare professionals.

Patient experience surveys measuring patient satisfaction with hospitals.

Medical key performance indicators, including patient safety, hygiene measures, and quality of treatment.

“The team and Hackensack University Medical Center is honored to be included on Newsweek’s 2021 World’s Best Hospital’s list,” said Ihor S. Sawczuk, M.D., FACS, regional president, Northern Market, Hackensack Meridian Health. “This recognition inspires us to continue providing the highest-quality treatment for patients in New Jersey and beyond while working to advance the future of medical care.”

In 2020, Hackensack University Medical Center ranked No. 55 on the World’s Best Hospitals list, which included 350 hospitals in the U.S.
