Carrier Clinic Hosts Reception to Benefit Behavioral Health Services Expansion

Event will raise vital funding to expand the adolescent unit on the campus

Hackensack Meridian Carrier Clinic will host its signature fundraising event on Thursday, April 20 on the behavioral health hospital’s sprawling 100-acre Belle Mead, NJ, campus. The event will raise funds to support the expansion of the adolescent behavioral health unit at Carrier Clinic so that the facility can treat more adolescents in crisis.

The CDC has recently reported that one in three teenage girls has reported feeling persistent sadness and one in three seriously considered attempting suicide. In fact, suicide was the second-leading cause of death among teenagers nationwide.

We are committed to transforming behavioral health care by expanding access, better coordinating care and innovating treatment,’’ said Robert C. Garrett, FACHE, CEO of Hackensack Meridian Health. “There is an urgent need to do more, especially for children and adolescents, and this expansion is part of a comprehensive and robust strategy to address this growing need.’’

Carrier Clinic, the largest not-for-profit behavioral health facility in New Jersey, is embarking on a $29 million, 50,000+ square foot expansion, taking its bed total up to 52 from 36 beds for children and adolescents. Additionally, the new, state-of-the-art unit will feature a family resource and training center, new gymnasium and clinical features designed specifically for the safety of patients and clinicians. The design will ensure that Carrier Clinic can implement best practices for all behavioral health diagnoses and also incorporate space for a latency program, which will allow Carrier to lower the age of the patients served to 7-years-old.

The expansion of the adolescent unit is just one of the many steps we are taking to combat the ever-growing behavioral health crisis in our country,” says Donald Parker, president of Behavioral Health Transformation. “Hackensack Meridian Health has invested hundreds of millions of dollars into this epidemic, beginning with the opening of the country’s first urgent care with behavioral health; the opening of an outpatient addiction services program at our Retreat and Recovery at Ramapo Valley; the expansion of behavioral health beds at Raritan Bay Medical Center which increased to 81 beds; the creation of a centralized telemedicine hub that will provide remote, around-the-clock consultations for behavioral health patients in collaboration with partners across the state; and so much more. But the funds for these projects are not limitless, which is why events like the Carrier Clinic Reception are absolutely vital to our work.”

Presented by Inserra Supermarkets, the reception will feature a reception style dinner and entertainment.

We are so excited to host this event on our campus,” says Trish Toole, president and chief hospital executive, Carrier Clinic. “Funding for behavioral health services has never been more important, and we are so grateful to everyone who plans to join us for this exciting event, and who is partnering with us in this important expansion initiative. We look forward to welcoming everyone to our beautiful campus and hope to meet new friends who feel as passionately about solving the behavioral health crisis as we are.”

In addition to presenting sponsor Inserra Supermarkets, the event is sponsored by: Caryl and Jim Kourgelis and Family as a Platinum level sponsor, Nass Tech Mechanical LLC at the Gold level and Compass One Healthcare, Audrey Murphy/Team Member Health and Safety, Dr. Abdulla Al-Khan, Keith and Debbie Banks and Perfect Connections Security Systems at the Silver sponsorship level.
