Hackensack Meridian JFK University Medical Center Becomes The Second Facility in the State of New Jersey To Offer New Advanced MRI Technology, MAGNETOM Vida 3T MRI
November 08, 2023
Hackensack Meridian JFK University Medical Center announced today that its radiology services now includes a new advanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology that offers high field 3 Tesla MRI machine with state of the art software and patient comfort that will enhance the patients experience.
JFK University Medical Center is the second facility in the State of New Jersey to offer the MAGNETOM Vida 3T MRI, which adapts to unique patient needs such as weight and anatomy and provides a more precise and faster MRI experience than traditional MRI technologies.
MRI scans are medical imaging procedures that use a magnetic field and radio waves to take pictures of the interior of the body. MRI results are used to explore or diagnose conditions that affect soft tissue, such as brain disorders and tumors.
“MAGNETOM Vida 3T MRI represents a dramatic leap forward in MRI technology, and exemplifies our ongoing commitment to advance the level of care we provide at JFK University Medical Center,” said Amie Thornton, president, chief hospital executive.
The new MRI’s BioMatrix Technology – a groundbreaking collection of sensors, tuners, and interfaces – enables the scanner to adapt automatically to anatomical and physiological characteristics to provide consistent, high-quality imaging for all patient types. This decreases the need for rescans and increases scan consistency across a diverse patient population.
The system uses very powerful magnets that produce a specialized 3-Tesla magnetic field, which is about twice as powerful as the fields used in conventional high-field MRI scanners, and as much as 15 times stronger than low-field or open MRI scanners. This gives us the ability to provide our physicians with high quality and high resolution images for those tests that require such imaging such as orthopedics and Neuro imaging.
“The new technology in the MAGNETOM Vida 3T MRI includes sensors which track the patient’s respiratory function and help the medical professional select the optimal scan to use,” said Dr. Noam Eshkar, radiologist, JFK University Medical Center. “It also sets optimal scan parameters based on the anatomy of the individual patient. In addition, we expect the advances in this MRI will speed up the process by about 30 percent and will also help avoid any rescans because of the quality of its images and accuracy.”
The scanner’s design and innovative applications simplify the process of doing MRIs while increasing exam precision and patient comfort. Its specialized technologies automate and simplify workflows from the start of the scan through quality control of the image data, resulting in increased productivity for routine examinations throughout the body.
"The addition of this advanced 3T magnet technology here on the hospital campus now gives us the full field capability of performing those exams that require a 3T magnet without having to transport the patients via ambulance across the street to the imaging center plus having two machines at the hospital gives us tremendous flexibility and capacity to reduce our inpatient MRI turnaround times,” said Srikanth Jaikumar, vice president, Operations, JFK University Medical Center.
“Providing the foremost quality and best in-class MRI imaging is the cornerstone of the HMH commitment to patient care,” said Michael Horton, vice president, Radiology, Hackensack Meridian Health. “The result of all this? Superior image quality, precise visualization, greater accuracy – and a better patient experience.”
The capabilities & innovation implemented at JFK are reflective of HMH's commitment to clinical quality and represent the future of our Radiology strategy.
