Southern Ocean Medical Center One of Only Ten New Jersey Hospitals to Receive Four Stars from The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Quality Star Rating Program
Manahawkin, NJ (May 4, 2021) Hackensack Meridian Southern Ocean Medical Center was one of only ten hospitals in New Jersey to receive a four out of five-star rating in the 2021 Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) overall hospital quality star ratings.
“What better distinction can a hospital receive than to be noted for its efforts in providing safe, quality care,” said Kenneth N. Sable, M.D., MBA, FACEP, regional president, southern market, Hackensack Meridian Health. “We remain dedicated to enhancing the quality of the care and safety we provide as well as improving our patient experience.”
CMS rated over 4,500 hospitals from one to five stars, with five representing the highest quality rating. The overall star rating is based on how well a hospital performs across different areas of quality, such as treating heart attacks and pneumonia, readmission rates, and safety of care.
“This is an extraordinary accomplishment that exemplifies the dedication and collaboration of the entire Southern Ocean Medical Center team to deliver the best patient care,” said Michele Morrison, MPH, BSHA, RN, president and chief hospital executive. “I am extremely proud of our team members for receiving this recognition.”
The overall rating shows how well each hospital performed on an identified set of quality measures compared to other hospitals in the U.S. The more stars, the better a hospital performed on the available quality measures. The overall rating, between 1 and 5 stars, summarizes a variety of measures across 7 areas of quality into a single star rating for each hospital. The 7 measure groups include:
- Safety of care
- Patient experience
- Effectiveness of care
- Timeliness of care
- Efficient use of medical imaging
