Message from the Chair
Our mission, “Transform health care and be recognized as the leader of positive change,” is not simply a slogan but a deeply held belief by all 642 physicians and 11 divisions in the Department of Medicine. We achieve the mission through a strong commitment to our beliefs- I will do my part to make things better (creative), I will do the right thing (courageous), I am the human experience (compassionate), I embrace teamwork (collaborative), I am part of something bigger (connected).
Jersey Shore University Medical is a major flagship hospital of Hackensack-Meridian Health in the southern region with a robust internal medicine residency and multiple ACGME-accredited fellowship programs. The hospital and its outpatient clinics provide a robust clinical experience to its trainees as well as the medical students from our Hackensack-Meridian School of Medicine. The department has also set a culture of research and scholarly activity. As such, residents and fellows in various divisions in the department are actively engaged in
research at all levels. The Internal Medicine residency program has put a special emphasis on career development, coaching, and resident well-being. The Medical MBA program- a one
year certificate program that is free of charge is one way to enhance our trainee's career. In addition to leadership and organizational behavior, the program provides vital information on financial transactions, accounting, project management, and conflict resolution. The program prepares our residents to successfully manage future challenges and provide innovative solutions to improve the health of our patients.
Patient safety, quality and patient experience are critically important components of healthcare. To that end, our residency program offers our residents the opportunity to directly participate in patient safety and quality, patient experience, and to conduct much-needed research in this area.
These are some of the great many benefits offered by our residency program, department and health system. These are exciting times in the history of Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where medical education, clinical training and leadership are combined to produce the best outcomes for our patients and simultaneously help you achieve your goals.

Welcome Message from the Program Director
Hackensack Meridian Health Jersey Shore University Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Program is one of the largest ACGME-accredited IM residency programs in the Hackensack Meridian System located in Southern New Jersey. We are proud of the friendly and collegial environment in our program where residents enjoy coming to work every day. Providing superb clinical training, teaching a holistic approach to patient care, maintaining high academic standards, and mentoring the professional growth of our residents is our mission. We believe in the importance of a well-rounded approach to learning, so we strive to offer a balanced curriculum that includes both didactic and clinical instruction. We aim to ensure our residents are fully prepared and equipped to practice medicine in the real world. Our program is designed to nurture and support the development of our residents’ clinical skills and knowledge while providing a supportive and collaborative environment. We have a dedicated faculty who are committed to teaching and mentoring our residents to become knowledgeable, compassionate, and competent clinicians. We encourage residents to engage in scholarly activities, research projects, and quality improvement initiatives to foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth. We offer a diverse range of rotations, including general medicine, subspecialties, intensive care units, ambulatory care, and electives, enabling residents to explore their areas of interest and tailor their training to their career goals.
We promote teamwork, open communication, and mutual respect, fostering a collaborative atmosphere where residents can thrive. This program propagates the habit of lifelong learning with the application of evidence-based medicine in clinical practice. Our program is diverse and inclusive with almost an equal number of US and international medical graduates. Our corridor is always vibrant with medical students from our Medical school “Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine” and students from St. George University, many of whom stay to complete their residency with us due to the solid clinical training they enjoy here. Our program is multi-ethnic and culturally diverse which makes our residents culturally competent and learn to provide healthcare without any disparities.
In addition to superior clinical training, we recognize the importance of resident’s well-being. We prioritize work-life balance and provide resources and support systems to help residents maintain physical and mental well-being throughout their training. We believe that happy and fulfilled residents are better equipped to deliver exceptional patient care
We ensure our graduates acquire proficiency in all six domains of core competency required by ACGME and are well prepared for independent unsupervised practice internalizing the concept of value-based and team-based care. Every year our graduates match in competitive fellowships in highly academic programs across the country including JSUMC. Many of them pursued careers as hospitalists in our HMH system, primary care physicians, subspecialty consultants, and academic faculty. We nourish a collegial environment in our program where faculty, residents, medical students, and hospital staff experience a family and team atmosphere. We invite you to explore our program and learn more about what we offer. We look forward to helping you achieve your goals and are confident our program will help you become a successful internist.
