Hackensack Meridian Health Sponsors Mizuho Americas Open As Its Official Health Care Provider
June 01, 2023
Hackensack Meridian Health continues its support of the community it serves, announcing sponsorship of the Mizuho Americas Open at Liberty National Golf Club June first through June fourth.
Hackensack Meridian Health is proud to be the official health care provider of the Mizuho Americas Open. The LPGA golf tournament will showcase 120 of the best LPGA golfers along with top ranked junior girls of the American Junior Golf Association. LPGA icon and Major Champion, Michelle Wie West, will serve as the tournament host.
The Mizuho Americas Open will mark the first time Liberty National welcomes the LPGA Tour after hosting several world-class events, including the Presidents Cup and multiple PGA TOUR playoff stops. The tournament will see the best golfers in the world compete for a $2.75 million purse, one of the largest non-Major Championship purses on the LPGA Tour calendar for the 2023 season, against the backdrop of the Manhattan skyline and Statue of Liberty.
“Hackensack Meridian Health is proud to support female athletes in their pursuit of greatness at the Mizuho Americas Open, and keep them healthy in the process,” said CEO Robert C. Garrett, FACHE. “Our health system is the largest and most comprehensive across New Jersey, so it is a natural fit that we would care for the athletes as the tournament comes to the Garden State, continuing our focus on providing the best in care for these athletes and all the patients we serve.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Hackensack Meridian Health as the official health care provider of the inaugural Mizuho Americas Open,” said Caila Roberts, tournament director. “We take comfort in knowing that our LPGA players, sponsors, volunteers and spectators will all be taken care of by the best doctors and technicians in the business while on-site at Liberty National, and will also have access to the nationally renowned Hackensack Meridian Hackensack University Medical Center.”
In furtherance of a commitment to improving the health of women and children, Hackensack Meridian Health will utilize the tournament partnership to drive awareness and fundraising efforts for NICUSTRONG, a philanthropic initiative of Hackensack Meridian Health Foundation, which helps fund innovative treatments, cutting-edge equipment to provide exceptional care, much-needed research and support for parents and family in need of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Hackensack Meridian Children’s Health Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center.
“Since NICUSTRONG began in 2017, we have raised more than $500,000 to support the vital care our NICU provides to our smallest patients and their families, ensure our team has the necessary technology needed to do so, invest in research and provide educational training for our care teams,” said Lisa Eiland, M.D., FAAP, division chief of Neonatology at Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital. “We are so grateful that NICUSTRONG has been selected as a charitable beneficiary this year and know that this crucial support will help our babies thrive.”
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) has about 900 admissions per year. Approximately 90 newborns weigh less than 1,500 grams (approximately 3lbs., 5oz.). To address the medical needs of admitted newborns, the NICU provides an array of services including neonatal transport, hyperalimentation (intravenous nutrition), mechanical ventilation, high-frequency ventilation (up to 900 breaths per minute), inhaled nitric oxide and body cooling.
In January 2023, Hackensack University Medical Center announced it earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Advanced Certification in Perinatal Care (ACPC) by demonstrating exceptional standards and outcomes in the care of infants and mothers.
The sponsorship further demonstrates Hackensack Meridian Health’s ongoing commitment in supporting women’s athletics. Hackensack Meridian Health is also the official healthcare partner of Gotham FC and the Metropolitan Riveters.
