Podiatry Residency

Program Overview

Watch our Program Overview Video

Jersey Shore University Medical Center offers a Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency program with an added credential in Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery (PMSR/RRA). This is the only one of its kind in Monmouth and Ocean counties. The program trains podiatry graduates to provide state-of-the-art care and includes three years of training. As of 2020, we have expanded to accept three residents per year. Under the leadership of James Sullivan, D.P.M., residency program director, residents work closely with multiple podiatric surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, as well as physicians in other specialties. The podiatry residency provides residents with the knowledge, expertise, and support to become well-rounded surgical specialists by offering a friendly collegial program with outstanding learning opportunities. We offer challenging cases and a dedicated teaching staff who strive to educate well rounded and confident podiatry foot and ankle surgeons. Residents gain clinical experience in a resident run clinic at the Jane Booker Family Health Center, as well as in the wound healing center located on site within the hospital.

Welcome Message from the Program Director

From the program’s inception, we have had a vision to provide an excellent and well-rounded education for our residents and students, thanks to a dedicated and well trained faculty of podiatric and non-podiatric physicians.

We have a wide variety of attending physicians who provide a very diverse surgical caseload to enhance the training of our residents; many of whom are attending board certified by ABFAS with certification in Rearfoot and Reconstructive Ankle Surgery.

As program director, I have made the education of the residents a priority and I am constantly looking for ways to enhance the surgical training experience and academic advancement of our residents. To ensure that, we have medical and surgical subspecialty training rotations, a strong working relationship with Orthopedic Surgeons, as well as Plastic and Vascular Surgeons.

While at Jersey Shore, our residents have a very high volume of patient encounters in both the inpatient and outpatient environments. We have affiliation agreements for additional surgical cases with: Ocean Medical Center, Surgical Institute, the Northern Monmouth Regional Surgical Center, Metropolitan Surgical Institute and Advanced Endoscopy and Surgical Center.

We take pride in training our residents with hands on experience to provide the best possible care and outcomes for our patients.

Additionally, Monmouth County is a great place to live and work. The local area has fantastic restaurants and nightlife, as well as great beaches and outdoor activities available for your “down time “ entertainment and enjoyment.

Thank you for your interest in the Podiatric Surgical Training Program at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. I hope to have the opportunity to meet and work with you in the future.

Sincerely,

James P. Sullivan, D.P.M.
