Nationally-Recognized Pediatric Cancer Care

Joseph M. Sanzari and K. Hovnanian Children’s hospitals are proud to be ranked among the top children’s hospitals by U.S. News & World Report in 2020-21 for our combined pediatric cancer program. We are the only cancer program in New Jersey to be listed in the nation’s top 50.

Our nationally recognized children’s cancer program provides a multidisciplinary approach to treating all types of pediatric cancers and blood diseases. Our experienced pediatric oncology team will work with the child’s pediatrician, and depending on the type of cancer, surgical and other specialists to ensure that your child has seamless access to medical and support services throughout the entire care process in child-friendly environments.

Our doctors are consistently finding new and better ways to conquer even the rarest types of cancer, with access to more than 100 national and international cutting-edge clinical trials and treatment protocols such as New Jersey’s only pediatric bone marrow and stem cell transplant program and comprehensive brain tumor program. Some of these leading-edge research protocols have been developed at our facilities and are only available exclusively at our children’s hospitals.

Some of these leading-edge research protocols have been developed at our facilities and are only available exclusively at our children’s hospitals.

We are also among one of the few treatment centers in the U.S. to be certified to provide CAR (Chimeric Antigen Receptor) T-cell therapy. Some of our latest treatments even reduce or eliminate the need for chemotherapy or radiation therapy altogether – and we won’t stop there, as new FDA-approved treatments are being utilized by our doctors on an ongoing basis.

To get your child the best results, our oncologists, surgeons, nurses and other providers are grouped into specialized treatment teams. These teams focus on the specifics of your child’s diagnosis and promote strong relationships between the patient, family and clinicians allowing delivery of more effective care.

Our children’s hospitals provide art and music therapy, nutritionists and child life specialists. We not only help the child cope through procedures, but also advocate for the needs of the child and family. Psychologists, educators, social workers and support groups offer guidance for patients and families, including management of schoolwork and transitioning back to school after treatment.

Our pediatric cancer team provides lifelong support and education for childhood cancer survivors who are 2 or more years past treatment, regardless of where they were treated. Services include recommendations for further care, assistance in transitioning to adult medical services, observation and documentation of late effects.
