Financial Information for International Patients
Commercial, Contracted or Self-Pay Patients
If you have health insurance, we will assist you in completing insurance claim forms and send claims either to your insurance company or directly to you, if preferred.
If your international insurance is not contracted with HMH, or you do not have insurance, or are a self-pay patient, you will receive a cost estimate of your proposed care. You will be required to make a payment at least five days in advance of your scheduled appointment, treatment or procedure. This amount will be applied to the initial charges. If additional services are ordered by your Hackensack Meridian Health physicians, you may be scheduled for an additional patient financial services appointment to collect an additional deposit or an estimate of proposed services.
Upon completion of all visits, you can meet with a member of our patient financial services team to review charges that are posted on your financial account and get an estimate of the services that have not yet been entered into the billing record. Our team can answer any questions you have about charges, payments, refunds, and other items.
The following are acceptable forms of payment for self-pay charges:
- Wire transfers, VISA, MasterCard, & AMEX
- Traveler’s checks, certified checks drawn on a U.S. bank, or money orders
- Cash (U.S. dollars only accepted by on-campus appointment and security escort to Cashier)
If your appointments are covered by an embassy or other government agency, Hackensack Meridian Health will require a letter of guarantee authorizing payment for services prior to your appointment. These entities make the final decisions on approved services to be covered, including patients' out-of-pocket expenses either during or after an approved length of treatment. A letter of authorization from the embassy or other government agency will be required before treatment can be provided at Hackensack Meridian Health.
Hackensack Meridian Health will bill the embassy for all approved services on your behalf. For any additional services not authorized by the letter of guarantee, please contact our patient financial services team, who will assist with an approval request.
