4-Year Combined Fellowship Program Details

Our UCNS Accredited Interventional Neurology Fellowship offers one position per year as part of our 4-year combined fellowship program consisting of 1 year Vascular Neurology, 2 years Neurocritical Care and 1 year in Interventional Neurology. We are not currently offering Interventional Neurology Fellowship as a standalone program.

Program Mission and Goals

Our program is designed to meet and exceed the rigorous standards for UCNS accreditation, with the primary goal of preparing our fellows for independent practice as leaders in Interventional Neurology. The curriculum is structured to ensure graduates achieve mastery in the clinical decision-making, technical performance, and comprehensive management of patients with complex cerebrovascular diseases. Key objectives include developing advanced proficiency in performing and interpreting diagnostic cerebral angiography and mastering a full range of endovascular procedures, including mechanical thrombectomy, aneurysm embolization, and intracranial stenting.

A fundamental component of our fellowship is providing extensive, supervised experience in all phases of patient care, from initial pre-procedural evaluation and consultation to intra-procedural management and post-procedural care in the neuro-intensive care unit. Fellows will gain a deep understanding of the indications, contraindications, and risks associated with neurointerventional procedures, as well as the underlying pathophysiology of cerebrovascular disorders.

Curriculum and Rotations

Our curriculum offers a balanced and robust training experience, with a strong emphasis on hands-on clinical learning.

Neurointervention 4 Year Fellowship Curriculum

Research

Our fellowship program offers a rich environment for scholarly activity, strongly encouraging fellows to engage in the full spectrum of academic research. Fellows will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of ongoing clinical trials and translational research projects under the guidance of our expert faculty. We also empower our trainees to initiate new research projects, providing dedicated mentorship to help bring their ideas to fruition. To foster academic growth and dissemination of knowledge, fellows are supported in presenting their research findings at national and international conferences, such as the International Stroke Conference, and in publishing their work in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals.

Didactics and Conferences

Our program includes a robust didactic curriculum to supplement clinical training. Fellows will have protected time to attend a variety of weekly conferences, including:

  • Interventional Neurology Didactic Lecture Series
  • Weekly Case Conferences
  • Journal Club
  • Neuroimaging Rounds
  • Morbidity and Mortality Conference
  • Grand Rounds

Our Faculty

Our faculty includes board-certified interventional neurologists, neurosurgeons, vascular neurologists, neurocritical care specialists, anesthesiologists, and researchers who are leaders in the field. They are dedicated to providing exceptional mentorship and training to our fellows.

Teaching Opportunities

Our fellowship program provides a rich and dynamic educational environment with abundant opportunities for fellows to develop their teaching skills. Situated at the same academic center as the Adult Neurology Residency Program, Vascular Neurology Fellowship and Neurocritical Care Fellowship, our fellows are integral to the training of the next generation of neurologists and specialists. They have the chance to mentor and instruct a diverse group of learners, including preliminary and internal medicine residents rotating through neurology in their first year. Furthermore, our fellows engage with medical students from the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine and other affiliated institutions, allowing them to refine their educational techniques and contribute to the growth of future physicians.
