Andrew Blitzer, M.D., D.D.S., is known internationally for pioneering Botox injection treatments for varied neuromuscular disorders, Tourette’s, general dystonia and spasmodic dysphonia, and even its cosmetic applications. He is a prolific author, with hundreds of publications and textbooks to date on Botox clinical applications. And, his legacy continues in the new generations of fellows and medical students under his wing.
After training more than 35 fellows and serving patients in a lauded career including posts with Columbia University and Mount Sinai West, Dr. Blitzer now draws both patients and esteemed staff recruits to Hackensack University Medical Center.
Dr. Blitzer wrote the book on Botox.
He pioneered the application of botulinum neurotoxin in medical settings, both clinical and cosmetic, and was the first physician to inject botulinum neurotoxin in human vocal folds. Now, he offers the treatments he helped revolutionize, and is training the next generation of ENTs at Hackensack University Medical Center.
Hackensack University Medical Center Otolaryngology Chair Brian Benson, M.D., while far from his own fellowship days, appreciates the academic medicine leadership experience and generosity his new colleague offers.
“He meets you where you’re at and then pushes you to be productive,” Dr. Benson said. “He sees what you’re interested in. He customizes the educational experiences to whoever he’s working with and their special interests.” He witnessed this teaching adaptability in approaches with fellows coming in from diverse backgrounds and career interests, from pediatric voice disorders to head and neck cancer. Dr. Blitzer also has ensured international medical students who trained in medical education settings without full academic resources returned to their home countries fully prepared to offer specialized ENT care.
Hackensack University Medical Center trainees, staff and patients all benefit from Dr. Blitzer’s expertise, innovative approaches and experience in ENT care.
