New Specialists Strengthen New Jersey Neurological Care at Hackensack University Medical Center

Meet the new specialists who joined the Hackensack Meridian Neuroscience Institute as part of its comprehensive services expansion

Access to neuroscience care in New Jersey continues to expand with the addition of new specialists at the Hackensack Meridian Neuroscience Institute at Hackensack University Medical Center. In a commitment to providing comprehensive neurological care for the region, the Institute recently welcomed the following clinical experts:

Osama Abu-Hadid, M.D., who is board-certified in neurology, specializes in movement disorders. Dr. Abu-Hadid recently completed a fellowship in movement disorders at Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Abu-Hadid specializes in Parkinson’s disease, parkinsonism, ataxia, dystonia, tics, tremors, chorea, gait impairment, and has clinical interests and expertise in dystonia and tremor, including Botox injection treatment, and deep brain stimulation for Parkinson’s disease. He views movement disorders as a specialty that “combines looking at the brain from a physical standpoint and looking at the mind from a mental standpoint."

Anuradha Singh, D.O., a fellowship-trained, board-certified neurologist who specializes in the treatment of multiple sclerosis and autoimmune disease. Dr. Singh also specializes in neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD), myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) associated diseases, transverse myelitis, optic neuritis, autoimmune encephalitis, neurosarcoidosis, and other immune-mediated inflammatory conditions affecting the brain and spinal cord. 

Reena Gottesman, M.D., is board-certified in neurology and behavioral neurology. She treats adults with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia with Lewy bodies, frontotemporal dementia, vascular dementia, mild cognitive impairment and other neurobehavioral disorders. 

Over the past year and a half, the Hackensack Meridian Neuroscience Institute at Hackensack University Medical Center has expanded care in all areas of neurology and neurosurgery, adding specialists in headache medicine, neurocritical care, stroke, brain trauma and neurosurgery, among other areas.

"From the outset, our mission in the Neuroscience Institute has been to bring together renowned clinicians and researchers in multidisciplinary teams to work collaboratively across the health care continuum," said Florian P. Thomas, M.D., chair of the Neuroscience Institute and Department of Neurology at Hackensack University Medical Center and founding chair and professor of Neurology at Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine. "Expanding access to clinicians, technology and therapies improves the care we provide to our patients, reduces complications and improves outcomes."
