Advance directives are documents you create to describe the extent of medical treatment you want to receive—or not to receive—should you become unconscious or too ill to communicate. Though the topic may be difficult to discuss, your wishes are important. We recommend that you discuss advance directives with your spouse, other family members, physicians, nurses, and clerics while you are feeling well and thinking clearly.

What to Bring for Your Childbirth Experience:

What to Pack

  • Start to pack your bag by 36 weeks
  • ID/Insurance Card
  • Birth plan (if you have one)
  • Phone charger with long charging cable if you are able as outlets may be limited. 


  • Personal toiletries. Hospital will provide: Toiletry kit with toothbrush, toothpaste, body wash/shampoo, lotion.
  • Extra hair ties, hairbrush, lip balm, glasses/contact lenses
  • 2 nursing bras; nursing pads
  • Hospital will provide: non-slip socks, hospital gowns– if you prefer your own clothes/pajamas bring tops that are nursing friendly–button down or nursing specific shirts.
  • Going home outfit for mom (about the size that you were when 6 months pregnant), a few pairs of underwear 
  • Hospital will provide 3 meals/ day for mom; bring your own non-perishable snacks if you have a preference.
  • Hospital will provide: pads and stretchy panties during your stay; yoga/peanut balls 

Support Person

  • Bring your own snacks 
  • Glasses/contact lenses, toiletries
  • Slippers/socks, sleepwear/change of clothes (enough for 2-3 days)
  • Meals are not included-can order a meal through hospital, or order at Au Bon Pan that is located in the hospital; many nearby eateries


  • Bring the removable car seat carrier up with you when you arrive at the hospital.  It’s a good idea to install the car seat about one month before your due date and make sure it’s installed properly. Some police and fire stations offer free safety inspections on car seat installations. Be sure to practice using the car seat and be familiar with the user manual. 
  • Pediatrician contact information
  • At least two weather appropriate going home outfits (including hat and socks) as one outfit may become soiled by the baby. Hospital will provide shirts and hats for baby to wear for the duration of hospital stay. 
  • Anything you may want for baby photos.
  • 2 weather appropriate blankets for home. Hospital will provide receiving blankets for the duration of stay. 
  • Hospital will provide: Diapers and wipes. 

You can sign into MyChart, our online patient portal to see your records. Or you can request copies from the hospital's Health Information Department.

Please note that Medical Records is currently located at 70 James Street, across the street from the main hospital building.

Visitation Guidelines

  • Free valet parking is available 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the main entrance.
  • Self parking is available next to the medical center
  • Patients for the Johnson Rehabilitation Institute and the Neuroscience Institute should park in Lot B (the gate lot directly across from the rehabilitation institute.
  • Patients for outpatient testing should park in Lot E.
  • Pre-admission testing and same day surgery patients can be dropped off and picked up at the admitting entrance. Valet parking also is available from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. MOnday through Friday.
  • Emergency department patients should park in the ER parking lot.
  • Occupational Health and Family Practice patients should park in Lot G.
  • Visitors with special needs should contact 732-321-7568.
