Hackensack Meridian Hackensack University Medical Center Appoints U.S. Army Veteran Gregory Sugalski, MD, MBA, as Chair of Emergency Medicine

Hackensack Meridian Hackensack University Medical Center is proud to announce the appointment of Gregory Sugalski, MD, MBA, as the new Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Sugalski, who has been serving as Interim Chair, brings a wealth of leadership experience and a distinguished record of service to his new role.
Dr. Sugalski is a decorated U.S. Army veteran who served as an Emergency Medicine physician at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. His military career included two deployments, providing critical care in support of combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Since joining Hackensack University Medical Center, Dr. Sugalski has held several key leadership positions, including Vice Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine, Chief of Quality and Patient Safety, and Director of Institutional Throughput. His leadership has been instrumental in advancing the department’s focus on operational efficiency, patient safety, and clinical excellence.
Dr. Sugalski earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, where he also completed his residency and served as Chief Resident. He recently earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He is also an Associate Professor at the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine and serves as a team physician for the NHL’s New Jersey Devils.
