What to Expect

When you call John Theurer Cancer Center for a second opinion on your cancer diagnosis, our new patient intake coordinators will guide you every step of the way.

  • After your initial call, you’ll have an appointment with a doctor for your second opinion in five days or less
  • Don’t worry about gathering your medical records. Your new patient intake coordinator will work with your care providers to collect your medical records in advance of your appointment.

Are Second Opinions Covered By Insurance?

Many health insurance plans cover second opinions. To confirm that your appointment is covered, the financial consulting team at John Theurer Cancer Center will complete an insurance verification once your appointment is scheduled.

Preparing for Your Appointment

A new cancer diagnosis is overwhelming. We strongly encourage you to bring an adult advocate with you to your first appointment to listen in and help ask questions. For adult appointments, children under the age of 12 should not be in attendance. Please speak to your care provider if you have any questions regarding children.

We also encourage you to prepare a written list of questions in advance.

Fasting is typically not required before your appointment. Speak to your intake coordinator or primary care physician if you have questions about your blood work and whether or not fasting is necessary.
