Recognized Nationally for Promoting Organ, Eye, and Tissue Donation, Hackensack Meridian Health Supports National Donate Life Month

Recognized nationally for promoting organ, eye, and tissue donation, Hackensack Meridian Health supports National Donate Life Month. Held each year in April, National Donate Life Month features activities to help encourage people to register as organ and tissue donors and to celebrate donors.

“During National Donate Life Month and year round, we are proud to partner with organizations like the NJ Sharing Network,” said Robert C. Garrett, FACHE, chief executive officer of Hackensack Meridian Health. “We join with them in their mission to celebrate those who save lives through the gift of life.”

Hackensack Meridian Health hospitals are nationally recognized for promoting enrollment in state organ donor registries, as part of a national campaign sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), which adds donor enrollments to state registries nationwide.

The following hospitals have earned 2019 HRSA recognitions, with 2020 recognitions pending: Hackensack Meridian Bayshore Medical Center (platinum); Hackensack Meridian Hackensack University Medical Center (platinum); Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center (platinum); Hackensack Meridian JFK Medical Center (platinum); Hackensack Meridian Mountainside Medical Center (platinum); Hackensack Meridian Ocean Medical Center (platinum); Hackensack Meridian Palisades Medical Center (platinum); Hackensack Meridian Pascack Valley Medical Center (silver); Hackensack Meridian Riverview Medical Center (platinum); Hackensack Meridian Raritan Bay Medical Center – Old Bridge (platinum); and Hackensack Meridian Raritan Bay Medical Center – Perth Amboy (platinum).

In addition, Hackensack Meridian Health is a leader sponsor of the 2020 Donate Life Transplant Games, a biennial multi-sport festival recognizing the success of donation and transplantation and honoring the generosity of donors and their families. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Games, which had been scheduled for July 2020 in New Jersey at the Meadowlands, will be postponed until July 16-21, 2021.

There are a variety of ways to support National Donate Life Month, which the NJ Sharing Network is observing virtually throughout the month of April in order to heed social distancing rules due to the pandemic. For more information, please visit: www.NJSharingNetwork.org.
