Meridian ACO Saves More than $9 Million

The Meridian Accountable Care Organization (ACO), one of Hackensack Meridian Health’s ACOs, achieved more than $9.3 million in total savings and over $3.6 million in shared savings for the 2022 performance year. Since its founding in 2013, the Meridian ACO has realized more than $25 million in total savings.

“Behind this impressive achievement are hundreds of dedicated physicians, nurses and patient care providers,” said James Clarke, M.D., chairman of the Meridian ACO Board. “The team has continually delivered high-caliber care to its growing number of Medicare patients thanks to its dedicated physicians and team.”

The Meridian ACO posted a quality score of 77.50 for performance year 2022. Medicare ACOs are comprised of doctors, hospitals, and other health care providers, who work together to provide coordinated, quality care to their Medicare patients. The Meridian ACOs cared for more than 30,000 Medicare beneficiaries in New Jersey. The goal of each ACO is to ensure patients get the right care at the right time while avoiding unnecessary duplication of services and preventing medical errors.

As of 2023, Hackensack Meridian Health has combined its three previous ACOs into one new HMH ACO. Performance year 2022 is the final year for the Meridian ACO. Becker’s Hospital Review recently included the new HMH ACO on its annual list of ACOs to Know.
