Endocrine Fellowship
Program Details
The fellowship program in Endocrinology Diabetes and Metabolism at Hackensack University is a 2-year ACGME accredited academic training program. Applicants are accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and trainees are selected through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). The program will accept one trainee per year for a total of 2 fellows.- Robust inpatient experience at the Hackensack University Medical Center which serves patients requiring high acuity and specialty care
- Integrated diabetes management consult service involving advanced practice nurses and certified diabetes education specialists
- Newly established Inserra Family Diabetes Institute which provides innovative and top-notch care to patients with diabetes utilizing current technologies and optimization techniques
- ADA-Certified Molly Diabetes Education and Treatment Center for Children and Adults which provides diabetes education and medical nutrition therapy to a diverse group of patients.
- Diabetes transition program with adult and pediatric endocrinology
- Dedicated time for longitudinal research, quality improvement efforts and community outreach measures
The mission of the Hackensack University Medical Center Endocrinology Diabetes Metabolism Fellowship program is to educate physicians to provide compassionate, comprehensive, evidenced-based and problem-focused care of a diverse group of patients. The fellows and faculty are committed to promoting and expanding the knowledge and practice of Endocrinology Diabetes and Metabolism. The fellowship will foster an environment that emphasizes life-long learning, scholarship and innovation on the service and care of patients.
Program Aims and Objectives
At the completion of the fellowship training, our fellows will be able to:
- Acquire the knowledge and clinical skills to independently provide comprehensive care to patients with endocrine disorders commonly encountered by endocrinologists in the outpatient and inpatient setting.
- Possess the knowledge and expertise to independently manage patients with all forms of diabetes and have the expertise on how to utilize new technologies such as insulin pump and continuous glucose meters in diabetes management
- Be proficient in the use of ultrasound guidance for evaluation of structural thyroid disorders, assess for interval growth and progression.
- Develop the technical proficiency to perform ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration of thyroid nodules
- Possess cultural sensitivity demonstrating respect, acceptance and empathy for patients, regardless of their ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic or other background.
- Recognize their role as a member of a diverse healthcare system and commit themselves to collaborate with other members to provide the highest quality of care and to support the wellness of their colleagues.
