Geriatric Fellowship at Hackensack University Medical Center Offers Individualized Experienced in a Large, Comprehensive Care Setting

Program Encourages Independence, Fresh Ideas with Backing of Large Attending Faculty in Diverse Specialties

The Geriatric Fellowship Program at Hackensack University Medical Center encourages fellows to self-direct their experience while calling on the depth of faculty expertise across a comprehensive specialty base. To help address the growing need for geriatricians, the program trains two fellows each year, engaging specialties and renowned experts across the academic medical center.

The program’s culture encourages fellows to share ideas from their fresh, geriatric-focused perspective to enhance the care quality and patient experience. Fellows are empowered to respond to pages, interact with patients and their families and develop a plan of care independently, with feedback from attending physicians.

Patients typically can receive all the specialized care they need within the Hackensack Meridian Health network, allowing fellows to follow their patients’ results and experience through electronic medical records. Fellows also gain teaching opportunities, through medical student interactions.

Hackensack University Medical Center’s own Chief Medical Officer, Lisa Tank, M.D., and Geriatrics Division Chief Manisha Parulekar, M.D., are alumni of the Geriatric Fellowship Program.View their perspective and that of other participants and program faculty in the video below.
