Debate needed on tackling football safety

A movement to ban youth tackle football in New Jersey could get a boost from the fresh warnings of a New Jersey concussion expert of the inherent risks to the brains of children. In a June medical journal article, Christine Greiss, M.D., director of the JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute Concussion Program, said children under the age of 13 shouldn’t be playing tackle football. The problem isn’t just concussions, but repetitive head trauma from smaller blows. Earlier this year, Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle introduces a bill that would ban tackle football for players under 12-years-old, other states have taken up similar proposals.
