Taking a punch at Parkinson’s

As one of the few hospital-based fitness centers offering Rock Steady Boxing (RSB), JFK For Life Health & Fitness Center celebrated its one year anniversary. The non-contact program is unique because there is a mix of physical therapists and exercise physiologists leading the classes. Researchers have found that regular exercise is a powerful tool to not only slow down the effects of Parkinson’s, but to also improve one’s motor functions. Aurora Rodrigues, a participant of the RSB classes, stated, “There’s less rigidity, I have more movement. The exercise gives me more energy.” The original group started with four people and has grown to 25.
